Zivogošće is located on the southern part of the Makarska Riviera at the foot of Biokovo. It consists of three smaller, unconnected places on the coast: Porat - Mala Duba - Blato, which are connected by a promenade by the sea (lungo mare) with a length of 6 km and the whole is lit by solar lighting. Živogošće has been inhabited since Illyrian and Roman times. The famous epigram of Licinian from 474, composed of 16 Latin hexameters - the most beautiful example of classical literature - carved in the living rock above the source of Pokrivenica on the coast of the sea. With it, the Roman quaestor Licinian celebrates the source of "sweet water", which still flows there.
Živogošće was first mentioned as a settlement in the middle of the 13th century.
Živogoš Franciscan monastery, founded in 1616, was for many centuries the center of spiritual life and literacy in this region, with a rich library and valuable works of art.
The natural beauty of olive groves and pine forests, which tower over fine pebble beaches, 6 km of interconnected beaches, clean and unpolluted sea, and all of this located at the foot of a high mountain, Sutvid peak 1155 m, gives tourists a special atmosphere and pleasure of stay.
There are many opportunities for sports and recreation, thanks to the idyllic location of the place, by the sea coast at the foot of the magnificent mountain Biokovo. In addition to a number of sports facilities such as tennis and bocce, there are also cycling and hiking trails , and sea sports are also popular.
Lovers of romantic walks will choose the promenade by the sea in nearby Podgora, while adventurers will choose the Biokovo Nature Park with its educational trails. There are also two smaller harbors for the reception and mooring of boaters.
